Freestanding wardrobes

To plan your wardrobe properly, start with your real storage needs. Think about what you want to store: hanging clothes, folded clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, bed linen or seasonal items. This will help you understand whether you need more hangers, more shelves, drawers or boxes.

Then, measure the available space carefully, including height, width and depth. If you have a small bedroom, a smaller solution or a wardrobe with sliding doors can help you save space. If you have a larger room, you can consider a wardrobe with hinged doors or a more complete solution, such as PAX wardrobes, which can be adapted more to your needs.

Do not forget the inside of the wardrobe. With clothes organization solutions, hanging organizers, boxes and dividers, you can make better use of every part and create a wardrobe that truly supports your everyday routine.

With the IKEA planning tools, you can design your wardrobe for free, from the comfort of your home.

The color of your wardrobe depends on the size of the room, the light and the style of your décor. In smaller or darker rooms, a white or light-colored wardrobe can make the space feel brighter and calmer. Neutral shades, such as white, beige, grey or natural wood, are easy to combine with different styles and colors.

If you want the wardrobe to blend more discreetly into the room, choose a color close to the tone of the walls or the rest of the furniture. If you want it to become a stronger feature in the space, you can choose a darker shade or a wood texture that adds character.

Also think about everyday use. A wardrobe with a mirror can help the space feel larger and brighter, while a more neutral choice gives you the flexibility to change the rest of the décor more easily with textiles, rugs or decorative accessories.

The choice of wardrobe depends on your space, your needs and how flexible you want your storage solution to be. A freestanding wardrobe is a practical choice if you want a piece of furniture that can be placed easily in the room, moved around or taken with you to another home.

A more complete solution can help you make better use of every centimeter, especially in bedrooms with specific dimensions or limited available space. It can also create a more seamless, built-in look in the room.

If you rent your home or want more flexibility, a freestanding wardrobe may suit you better. If you want a more permanent solution with interior planning options, explore systems such as PAX wardrobes and combine them with interior organization accessories.

There are different types of wardrobes, so you can find the solution that best suits your space and the way you use your home. Freestanding wardrobes are practical and flexible, while more complete wardrobe systems can be adapted better to larger storage needs.

You can also choose wardrobes with hinged or sliding doors, depending on the available space in front of the wardrobe. Sliding doors are especially useful in smaller rooms, as they do not need extra space to open. Wardrobes with mirrors can help make a room feel brighter and more spacious.

There are also solutions for children’s rooms, smaller spaces, hallways or more specific organization needs. By combining your wardrobe with clothes organization, you can create an interior that better suits your habits.

To choose the right wardrobe, start by measuring the space where you want to place it. Consider not only the width, height and depth, but also the space needed for the doors to open or for you to move comfortably around the furniture.

Next, think about what you want to store. If you have many hanging clothes, you will need more rail space. If you have many folded clothes, accessories or bed linen, shelves, drawers and clothes storage boxes will help you make better use of the interior.

Finally, consider the style of the room. A wardrobe in a neutral color can easily match the rest of the furniture, while a wardrobe with a mirror or a stronger shade can change the feel of the space. The right choice is the one that combines practical storage, comfortable everyday use and a look that suits your home.

Wardrobes can be made from different materials, depending on their style, use and design. Common materials include wood, particleboard or fiberboard, which allow for different finishes, colors and looks.

A wardrobe with a wood-effect finish can give the room a warmer and more natural feel, while a white or plain surface can fit more easily into modern or minimal bedrooms. Mirrored doors can add functionality and help make the space feel brighter.

To clean a wardrobe from moths, start by emptying it completely. Remove all clothes, shoes, boxes and accessories, so you can check every corner, shelf and drawer properly. Then vacuum the inside carefully, paying attention to joins, edges and areas that are not easy to see.

Wipe the surfaces with a slightly damp cloth and mild cleaner and let the wardrobe dry very well before putting clothes back inside. It is important not to leave moisture inside, as this can create unpleasant smells or affect the clothes.

Before returning clothes to the wardrobe, wash or air out items that have been stored for a long time, following their care instructions. For better organization and protection, you can use clothes storage boxes, holders or closed storage solutions for seasonal items, wool garments and clothes you do not wear often.

Clothes can smell in the wardrobe when there is not enough ventilation, when they are stored before they are fully dry or when they stay in a closed space for too long. Moisture, dust and lack of air circulation can make the wardrobe smell musty and affect the clothes too.

To avoid this, make sure clothes are completely dry before placing them in the wardrobe. Air the room regularly, clean the inside of the wardrobe and avoid overfilling it, so air can circulate better between the clothes.

For off-season clothes, use clothes storage boxes or storage holders to keep them tidier and protected. You can also organize the wardrobe by category, keeping everyday clothes in the easiest-to-reach places and seasonal items higher up or further back.
