Since the launch of the first blue FRAKTA bag in 1996, it has become a characteristic item for IKEA. A spacious, durable and reliable companion for carrying and storing almost anything. So how do you improve something that already seems perfect? By increasing the percentage of recycled material in the bag – and also preparing it for recycling! In this way, we’ve both preserved and improved a design icon all at the same time!

Can a plastic bag be durable?
Tricky question – but allow us to explain what we’ve done to make FRAKTA as durable as possible. More than 90% of the bag is made from recycled material, of which min. 70% is plastic with a previous life in the food or plastic industry, like jumbo bags for milk powder or food containers. We added a small percentage of pigment and virgin material to give the bag its iconic blue colour and to ensure its durability over time, carrying up to 25 kg.
