Each rug is unique because it has been handwoven by skilled craftspeople with good working conditions and fair wages at organised weaving centres in India. Made from 100% wool.
Designer thoughts
Designers Petra and Nicole Kapitza
"We live and work in London – a vibrant, colourful and creative hub that inspires us every day. Particularly the amazing street art in East London. HALVED rug will hopefully add the same wonderful splash of colour to your life. Especially considering that the rug is hand made in India as part of the project IKEA has started to train and hire people there. This makes the rug a colourful boost to both people and homes."
Function/solution
Wave farewell to flying carpets
STOPP and STOPP FILT anti-slip rug underlays keep your rugs firmly in place, so no one slips on them. Cut the underlays to any size you need. STOPP FILT, which is 4 mm thick, also helps preserve hand-knotted rugs and makes all your rugs feel thicker and softer.
Material
What is wool?
Wool is a natural material that many of us love to keep close to our bodies. It keeps us warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s warm, and it’s good at absorbing moisture too. Great qualities for rugs, throws and more! We want all wool in our products to come from responsible sources by 2025. That’s why we’ve begun the journey towards complying with the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) with strict demands on animal welfare, land management and traceability.
People and Communities
Nurturing the tradition of handmade rugs
Rug weaving has a rich history with craftmanship that has been passed down through generations. This is kept alive, in part by the skilled men and women who make IKEA rugs at weaving centres approved by us. Here, we can secure the well-being of the artisans and their communities as well as the resources we use. So, when you buy one of our handmade rugs, you become owner of a unique piece, while also contributing to positive change for the people who make them.
